About the place
Sculpture:
– My bronze bouquets were stolen during the turbulent 1990s. Then the granite pedestal disappeared too, and I, damaged, was locked away in a museum storeroom. Everyone thought I was ugly and unfit to stand in the park. But I am stubborn, so I returned after 35 years. Only now I stand not on granite but on an iron pipe. They say a pipe is more fashionable than stone these days.
Passer-by:
– I would dare to disagree. I would like it if you stood on a granite column as before. But tell me, why are your hands still empty – without the bronze bouquets?
Sculpture:
– The sculptor from Vilnius who carved me, Ksenija Jaroševaitė, does not like returning to her old works. She says she is not interested in remaking what time has destroyed. Bear witness to history, stand proudly, she told me. Stand like the ancient Greek Apollos, Zeuses and Athenas – without heads, arms or legs. Stand and tell your story. After all, the language of art is the most powerful, and people are not foolish – they understand everything.
Passer-by:
– I can see strength in you. And I am even beginning to like the pipe they placed you on.
