It lies between Kretingos, Panev\u0117\u017eio, Anyk\u0161\u010di\u0173 and Piev\u0173 streets and \u0160iaur\u0117s Avenue. The district got its name because from the end of the 18th century most of this land belonged to Louise Manor. The residential district is dominated by private houses, and new apartment blocks are also increasingly being built. One of the most striking landmarks is the Parish of St. Casimir, founded in 1992, and the church built in 2007 on the site of the former royal grove. It is interesting because its shape resembles a ship, and the three towers connecting the different parts of the church symbolise the essential values of Christianity: faith, hope and love. In 2016 a modern stained-glass window, probably the largest in Lithuania, was consecrated in the church; it is 11 metres high and 4.5 metres wide. The stained glass was created by Prof. Kazys Mork\u016bnas and his student Egl\u0117 Vali\u016bt\u0117.
Being in this place, we also have the opportunity to remember the \u201cRoyal Grove\u201d. We know that historic Memel became the capital of Prussia at the beginning of the 19th century, and the Prussian royal family resided here from January 1807 to January 1808. However, this was not the first but already the second visit of the royal couple. The Prussian King Frederick William III and his beautiful wife Louise first visited Memel in 1802. Here they met their then ally, the Russian Emperor Alexander I. On 8 July the royal couple arrived from K\u00f6nigsberg via the Curonian Spit and stayed in the house of the merchant and Danish consul Lorck (now Klaip\u0117da Town Hall). Interestingly, the Prussian and Russian alliance against Napoleon was particularly welcomed by the people of Klaip\u0117da at the time, who hoped that the horrors of war would not reach their city. The famous chronicler Johannes Sembritzki wrote that at the place where the two monarchs met, the city and coastal planting inspector Richert planted young trees, which later formed the so-called Royal Grove. Its remnants can be found in the small park opposite the church, at the intersection of Kretingos and Panev\u0117\u017eio streets.\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
