About the event

„Music of Change” Contemporary Music Festival – Touch the Sound
The legendary French ensemble “Les Percussions de Strasbourg” is one of the most important contemporary music groups, which has been transforming perceptions of percussion and its possibilities for more than six decades. Founded in 1962, the ensemble has been an integral part of many musical movements of the 20th and 21st centuries, and more than 350 works have been composed for it. The ensemble’s repertoire ranges from scores that have become classics of contemporary music to new experimental forms. In the ensemble’s work, percussion is revealed not only as the foundation of rhythm but also as a space for exploring sound, movement, and performance techniques.
At the “Music of Change” festival, “Les Percussions de Strasbourg” will present “Timelessness,” a project by Belgian composer and filmmaker Thierry De Mey. An artist who has been working with music, dance, and the language of film for more than three decades, he pays particular attention to the performer’s body and gesture in his works. For him, a musician’s movement is not merely a means of producing sound—it becomes an integral part of the work itself.
“Timelessness” is a kind of creative self-portrait by Thierry De Mey, bringing together the composer’s earlier and newer works. The composer himself describes this project as an artistic manifesto aimed at restoring the performer’s body to prominence on stage. In this piece, percussionists become not only musicians but also performers of movement. In one of T. De Mey’s most famous works, *Musique de Tables*, the only instruments are three tables, and the music is created by the hands, fingers, nails, palms, and the performer’s slightest movements. “Ticking Sound” invites the audience to experience time not as a mechanical count, but as a living process in which pulse, bodily movement, and sound merge into a single musical drama.
