The city centre has more than one face – and that is part of its charm. You may also hear it called Naujamiestis, the New Town. From the railway station to the Old Town, it speaks through historic façades, café tables and streets that seem to know more about the city than they let on. Beyond the Old Market, the rhythm changes: everyday life becomes more visible, the streets grow wider, and residential neighbourhoods and shopping centres come into view.
Convenience rules in the southern part of the city. The Old Town is around 25 minutes away by public transport, and coming home is becoming more pleasant every year: neighbourhoods are being renewed, new parks are turning green, courtyards fill with children’s laughter and stronger communities are taking shape. It is a great choice for those who want everything nearby while still feeling a little removed from the bustle of the city centre.
Life in northern Klaipėda comes with more nature, more outdoor space and, quite possibly, a lawnmower that becomes a full-fledged member of the family every summer. This is where people come when they want their own house and a forest nearby, but do not want every everyday errand to turn into a journey. Schools, kindergartens, shops and services remain within easy reach. Living here may cost a little more than outside the city, but in return you get a rare luxury – room to breathe, without giving up the city.
