The world is closing in
And did you ever think
That we could be so close, like brothers?
The future’s in the air; I can feel it everywhere
Take me to the magic of the moment
On a glorious night
Where the children of tomorrow dream away
– „The Scorpions”
At the festival organized by the Klaipėda Faculty of the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theater, audiences can look forward to the contemporary dance performance “Rave of Riot” — an intense experience of movement, sound, and collective energy that invites the audience to explore the boundaries of freedom, protest, and community.
The performance brings together two social spaces that, at first glance, seem different but are essentially similar: the rave and rebellion. Within them, authentic individuality transforms into a sense of community, and the personal desire for freedom becomes a collective experience. Through rhythm, movement, and a shared pulse, the individual enters a space where they become one among many.
The work raises the question of whether rebellion is a free choice or an inevitable social and psychological necessity. Both raves and protests are united by the same desire—to break free. To sweat, to move rhythmically, to align bodies in a single direction, to clap, to chant, to shout, and to echo the rhythm of the heart, drums, electronic beats, and shattering glass. This collective energy on stage becomes a compelling physical and emotional experience.
With this performance, choreographer Agnietė Lisičkinaitė continues her creative exploration of how to embody protest through the means of stage expression. Together with graduates of the contemporary dance program at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theater, she has created a continuous journey of movement toward liberation, in which the individual voice merges with collective power.
„Rave of Riot” received exceptional recognition in the Lithuanian performing arts scene—in 2025, the production was selected to open the international theater festival „Sirenos,” and its team won the award “For Exceptional Energy.”
The judging panel described the performance as “an exceptional burst of unbridled energy,” highlighting its organically evolving dramaturgy, youthful purity, and impact: “It radiates youthful innocence, which makes it seem exceptionally modern and vibrant. The actors’ energy is infectious, and the costumes made from duct tape are unpolished and rough in the best sense of the word.”
