About the activity

Giruliai seems made for family holidays. This small settlement in the northern part of Klaipėda greets you with the sound of the sea and the company of green forests. Nature here is especially beautiful and generous: a botanical and zoological reserve has been established in this area.

As early as the 19th century, sand dunes stretched across this place, and the Prussian authorities decided to plant them with pines. Later, merchants were allowed to set up bathing facilities and locals to rent out summer houses. Today it is one of Klaipėda’s favourite beaches, especially among families with children. Giruliai can be reached by bike, by bus or even by train, just 7 minutes from the city centre. An asphalt path leads across the dunes to the beach, and the beach itself is spacious and welcoming to all: there are cafés, a lifeguard station, changing cabins and a wooden viewing platform, perfect for watching the sunset spectacle in the evenings.

If you want more experiences, it is worth walking to the impressive Dutchman’s Cap, exploring the remains of the “Memel-Nord” battery or stopping by the unique little cemetery of Karklė village on the seashore.

Anyone who has spent a summer in Giruliai knows it is more than a beach. It is a place where every day begins with the songs of the sea and ends with toys left in the sand and the most precious memories in your collection of experiences.
