About the place

On the left bank of the Danė, where the waterfront remembers the shadows of sails and the breath of wind, stand seven bronze bollards – silent witnesses to the journeys and dreams of exceptional Lithuanian seafarers.

Three yachts are commemorated symbolically – “Lietuva”, “Dailė” and “Audra”. In 1993, inspired by the spirit of Sąjūdis and flying the Lithuanian tricolour, they crossed the Atlantic. The voyage became a symbol of independence.

One bollard is dedicated to Gintaras Paulionis, who crossed the Baltic Sea in 1994 in the rowing boat “Alfredas Jansenas”. Another honours the Norwegian sailing vessel “Anna of Sand”, one of the oldest fishing vessels in Europe.

“One name – Lithuania.” With this motto, the “Millennium Odyssey” set sail in 2008 – a voyage around the world by Lithuanian sailors that recalled the nation’s perseverance and courage. It is commemorated by a bollard dedicated to the yacht “Ambersail” (2009).

The most recently installed bollard (2018) honours Bronius Rožinskas, who crossed the Atlantic by yacht in 1962–1963 and dedicated the voyage to the honour of the Lithuanian nation.

This waterfront is a bronze gallery of honour, reminding us that Lithuania is a maritime nation with its own heroes and legends of ships.
