About the place
If you want to escape your routine for a while, there is no better place than the quiet green refuge of Malūnas Park. Until 2017, this area was known as Trinyčiai Park. It is one of Klaipėda’s most picturesque corners, with Malūnas Pond – opening beside the old mill building – as its defining feature.
The oldest part of the park was mentioned as early as the 16th century, when a branch of the Danė was dammed and this body of water formed. The mill at the corner of Bangų Street and Gluosnių Lane still bears witness to the origins of the place. In the 18th century, the manors of Joniškė, Būtsargiai and Justenhof developed around it.
Later, when the nearby “Trinyčiai” factory began operating, the pond came to be known as Trinyčiai Lake – a name that also became attached to the park.
Today, a cycle path winds through the area, with children’s playgrounds, swings and picnic spots. Beside the pond stands the sculpture “Blooming” by Jurgis Malinauskas, marking what was once the geographical centre of the city.
Malūnas Park is like a slow breath of the city, filled with greenery, history and a peaceful rhythm.
Stop by – time in the city flows differently here.
