About the place

Woman sculpture:

– Shall we frighten passers-by tonight?

Man sculpture:

– Perhaps we should rest? The moon is shining, bats are flying… And there are so many of them now! Have you seen how many little holiday homes they have hung up for them in the park? I am amazed that something so small gets so much attention. Not like us. People walk past without even glancing our way, while everyone stares at the nearby “Torso”, and that is where they most often pose for photographs.

Woman sculpture:

– Do not envy our neighbour “Torso”. The more beauty there is around us, the more frightening we become, and the more people there are to fear us.

Man sculpture:

– Remind me why anyone should be afraid of us?

Woman sculpture:

– Sculptor Vaclovas Krutinis, who carved us, liked depicting figures, but not realistically – abstractly. That was his speciality, as people say. We both have forms, but no precise contours can be seen. We are like ghosts. That is why we are frightening.

Man sculpture:

– I would not agree that we are frightening. You and I are a graceful composition. “What marvellous art of light and shadow,” our sculptor used to say. Remember?

Woman sculpture:

– And do you remember how much the sculptor loved his work? He would burn with excitement knowing he was about to confront a mighty stone. He was especially drawn to marble and granite. If he managed to overcome the resistance of those materials, perfect works were born. Like us, dear companion – we are a perfect pair. We ripple and frighten passers-by, especially those who are late for night trains at the Railway Station.
