About the place
Sculpture monologue (male voice). (Written based on K. Jaroševaitė’s authentic account in the book “Ksenija Jaroševaitė. Traditional Sculpture in the 21st Century”. 2004):
– Already on the opening day, I was smeared with dirt by someone who was apparently mentally unstable. After this unpleasant incident, a discussion arose among the symposium organisers as to whether it was appropriate to place a statue of a nude man in a busy location beside a path. My creator – sculptor Ksenija Jaroševaitė – had to remind everyone that no one seems to object to sculptural images of nude women. When the sculptor who carved me openly asked why a sculpture of a nude man could not be displayed in public, no one was able to explain. And so I – the sculpture “Obsessive Thoughts” – remained standing where I had been placed. Unfortunately, vandals have long arms. Every time the sculptor came from Vilnius to visit the park, she found me smeared with dirt.
But that was a long time ago, before the restoration of independence. People are more civilised now.
The thoughts running down my back are stroked and tickled so that they may pass more quickly – anxiety, fear, suspicion, jealousy… everything that drags a person down, to the very bottom…
May your obsessive thoughts run away too, dear passer-by!
